So excited! I found the first egg today. I think it was my white EE (23 weeks) that laid it (under the coop! 8x8 coop maybe 12"+ off the ground, glad I could reach it!). I can't blame her though, we don't have the nests ready yet (working on that today).

I've been watching her for a couple of days now. She has been in and out of the coop all day, while in she's up & down the roost the whole time, digging in the corners, etc. Just didn't know what to do with herself. I think she was also walking kind of funny.

Congrats! I just found my first today too. I'm not sure I didn't miss it yesterday - it was in a corner of the nest box and I hadn't checked from the right angle.

Our hens are 5 months and JUST started squatting this weekend. They've intermittently, as a group, made a wild cacophony that sounds like what people post on Youtube as egg songs. I heard that this afternoon and went out to the coop to check, but only found the egg as it was getting dark.

I think it was my Barred Rock, but I don't know how to tell between her and the Buff Orpington. I'm just excited to have the egg! Kind of nuts how happy it makes me.

Congrats! So exciting huh? I never thought I'd get so excited over an egg. Especially since I'm allergic and can't even eat them

(yolks anyway)

I have two girls laying now. It was another EE that laid the blue egg above. The white EE has laid 3 so far...the first two were olive-ish, the third was a lot more blue-ish. And it was definitely the same chicken laying it. I'm hoping with the third egg there was just a malfunction going down the paint chute. I really want an olive egger (thought she'd make my job easier breeding for one).

Congrats on all your eggs.. I never thought I would be one of those crazy chicken people, ha ha ha! My friends all think I am nuts. We live just on the out skirts of a large town and it's a pretty yuppy area. So we are the only "farm" left in town. I just recently got farm animals. I was a total city girl before I got married. This is the life though. I want an olive egger too. I have 4 Black Copper Marans coming soon. The place I am getting them from sell olive eggers. So maybe in the spring.

Here are the eggs (on the left two from my EE Alice, on the right two from my EE Sally). Think the third is just a fluke? I thought chickens generally laid the same egg each time, with a little variation being normal. This seems like a big difference. I hope she lays today, its like waiting for the first egg all over again wanting to see what color she'll lay lol

(looking at it on my computer screen, the olive one just looks brown, but there's def. blue under there)

Here's another I took indoors...
