first eggs laid by chickens

Hi all, I am new to this board and new to raising chickens. My question is about the first eggs laid. I found 2 eggs this week, but both were softshelled and broken and small. Is this normal? My chickens are between 4-5 months old.

they sometimes do that with there first eggs.are you giving them any oyster shell for calcuim

no I have not done that. what kind of osyter shells? and what else can i use?

You can buy oyster shell...crushed...at most pet supply stores. Also you can give them egg shells, crushed up. This will help with the hardening of thier egg shells. Its normal for first time layers to give a few soft shells.
