My daughter found this egg today. 2.8 oz.!!!! It is 3 in long and 5 1/2 in. around. One of my chickens hasn't been laying for a few days. I guess this is why.....Ouch! Is this normal... is she o.k.? She seems fine. They have only been laying for about a month.
Woah! I've heard those sometimes end up being eggs with another fully formed egg inside. Was that the case or was it just a double-yolker?
Ours started laying about a month ago as well and right now the egg sizes are all over the charts. From what I understand this is normal for new layers. The picture below shows two eggs layed on the same day. Huge difference. The small one was 1.49 oz and the big one was 2.83 oz (and a double-yolker). All my layers are the exact same age too. Crazy.
I have 40 laying hens, (Did have 45 but had to cull 5 of them due to egg eating.) I get all sizes from 20 grams (.7 oz) up to 116 grams (3.0 oz) But most are in the 55-90 gram range. I got 40 eggs yesterday, and 41 today. I also got my smallest to date, and 2nd largest. Smallest 2nd and 6 largest to date, the small one is 2.9 oz, the large one is 3.9 oz. Todays collection
