We hatched five little serama chicks out of some eggs that were shipped to us from Arkansas, on the 2nd of December '08, and out of those we ended up with 3 roos and 2 pullets. This week one of our little girls laid her first egg!
She is only 15 weeks old, so it came as a total surprise. I had put them out in the run with the other laying hens for only their third time and Rhody got into one of the nesting boxes like she knew what she was doing.
I came into the house and told the kids that she was trying on a nesting box for size and that I thought she might be "practicing" for the big event.
They all ran outside to see her (the serama's are a family favorite) and my daughter came running back in with the eensiest little egg in her hand.
I guess Rhody was primed and ready! LOL
Today we got her second one. I am so proud of her!
Here it is!
And here it is compared with regular eggs and one mammoth egg one of RIR's laid:
Is it normal for Serama to lay at such a young age?
