My girls are 6 weeks old now.
I was thinking of clipping their wings and letting them run in the fenced yard for a short time each day.

Is this a good age for that?
    Thanks for all your help.

Do they fly pretty good? Do you have neighbors? If so I would clip.

But if you don't have to many things to worry about, then I would just leave them like they are. Your choice.

Good luck with your birds leting them free-range!! [IMG]

I would definitely clip their wings. The smaller pullets can really fly; I learned my lesson when I let a group of 16-week old pullets free range and two of them flew over the pasture fence (6' high) and were killed by a dog. [IMG] It never occurred to me that they would fly over when they have two acres over here and my other chickens have never attempted it but they did; I now clip all of my hens wings, just one side. As for the age, six-weeks is fine for ranging in a yard as long as your fence is secure and you're home while they're out. At six-weeks they're still vulnerable to cats; assuming you're in a neighborhood, there are bound to be cats lurking about.
