First time caring for chicks.

I am new to raising chickens.I am thinking about getting 5 day old silkies. I live in Florida so the winters aren't bad. I am concerned that chicks may not be a good way to start.

Well, chicks are a lot of fun and they're awfully cute, but there are drawbacks.

Getting chicks older than six weeks, you can be more certain of the sex and avoid unwanted roosters.

You can also avoid the heartbreak of getting a sick baby, but most actually are healthy.

That said, chicks really aren't that hard to care for. Just provide heat and d]safety, food and water, and they pretty much take care of themselves.
