Just hatched 16 chicks out over the last day or so. First time ever incubating eggs and I must admit it has me excited!

16 of 22 hatched so room for improvement but I'm happy!

Just some barnyard crosses. Easter Eggers, Sussex, plymouth rock and a bunch of assorted chickens. Planning on purchasing some pure blood plymouth rocks this spring.

It's our first hatch this morning. We woke up to the sound of a loud mouth that wasn't even dry hollering for its mom. We had set 82 eggs and on Wednesday moved them into 2 Hovabators setup as hatchers. Many have pipped so at least we know now that those young roosters have been getting the job done. These are from 6 month old pullets. Eggs between 1 7/8 & 2 1/8 were chosen from both the Delaware and Rhode Island flocks. Now the stress level can lower some. :jumpy

5 have hatched completely and are dry and in the voice of Jerry Lee Lewis "There's a Whole Lot of Pipping going on."I'm not going to count them until they hatch and survive a week. I was very concerned knowing the parents were very young.
