First Time Mama Hen in Virginia

    Hello! I am excited to join the BYC community :)

    I got 4 chicks for Mother's Day - 2 Blue Wyandottes, 2 Ameraucanas/Easter Eggers - all female. They are five weeks old now! I bought a New Age Pet ecoFLEX Fontana Chicken Barn, scheduled to arrive tomorrow. It will be put inside a large enclosed run.

    I have two sons (1 & 4 years old) who are OBSESSED with the chickens :)

    Please share your best chicken advice for a first timer!

    :welcome So glad you have joined us.

    Congrats on your newbies, they are so cute - and all girls :ya that's awesome.

    I'm not familiar with the coop you ordered - but make sure it is anchored down. Those light weight ones can blow over in high winds.

    Welcome! My first chicks were BLR Wyandottes and EEs too! My 13 year old daughter is obsessed with our birds too and actually just assisted a egg hatch that was left behind from a broody. Advice? Get more chickens!
