We named him! The big chunky Barred Rock boy is named. His name is Dutch. His brother is Mace and they will be joining the flock to help Zane with the duties (being optimistic in saying "joining"). He and all except six of the 32 chicks are 13 days old. Since it's over 75 degrees and sunny, I opened the door to the pen. Dutch was the first one out. Only a few came out, several RIRs, Dutch's sister, and two 6-day-old New Hampshire pullet chicks. A Welsummer came to the door, but didn't venture outside. We named him, then I thought DUH! Should have saved the name Dutch for a Welsummer rooster since that is the origin of the breed, but I'm still not 100% sure I'll keep one. I only recently discovered that part of my heritage is Dutch, hence, the name.

Welcome to the flock, Dutch! [IMG] [IMG]

If the weather will ever cooperate, I'll get some pictures of his bigger brothers and sisters. [IMG] It's raining cats & dogs out there right now.
  3. He looks like a character!

love to see pics when you can get them, Tara! It's looking a bit overcast here now, too. I put them back inside when no one else ventured out. Seems Dutch is quite the leader already, though.

As always with your feathered kids, cuteness abounds!

Now that is a great name! Those are some nice looking chicks, too. It is 80 up here. My last hatch is out on the grass in the sun and breeze having a blast. I know your chicks must have had an equally grand time exploring something new in the sunshine. Thanks for the photos. [IMG]
