I have 8 little Chicks. My kids love them, I have followed all the tips given to me from experienced people and from what I have read.
The break down is 2 ISA Browns, 2 Amber link, 2 Black Sex Link, and 2 Americana. I would like to take pictures and post them on here and get suggestions and advice about my setup. I do have questions about care.
What kind of care am I supposed to do while they are young? I keep the Brooding space 90 to 95 degrees.
My kids are 9 & 7 and they are completely thrilled with them. But how much attention is to much?

[IMG] Click on 'the learning center' located at the top of the page. Handling of young chicks should be kept to a minimum - be careful that they wash their hands after holding the chicks. Good luck with your new flock.

Yep, I may kids wash their hands every time. It is a standing rule. [IMG] here is my setup.

[IMG] Congrats on the new chicks! You have a nice setup, but I think it would be better to just have one lamp so that they can move in and out of the heat if they like. And the food and water should be out of the range of the heat lamp.

Key Flock has given you good advice. Chickens need an area away from the heat lamp so if they are too hot, they can move to a cooler spot and vice versa. They really need the benefit of their choice

I was wondering about that. But I live in Michigan, and our weather is completely screwy right now. So I was worried it being to cool. I did just turn off one heat lamp....
