FIRST TIME SILKIE

I'm about to get a 1 yr old buff silkie hen to add to my flock of 3 month old hens plus one roo. Is there anything I should know about silkies? Or any advice for adding a grown hen to a young flock? And if it is a healthy bird, do i still need to quarantine for so long? Thanks!

I have two silkies and just love them. They are treated just the same as the rest. I've heard that silkies can get colder than others chickens. Since they are a smaller breed, they tend to snuggle under the others during the winter and seem plenty warm.

I would always quarantine a new bird even if they appear healthy. Odds are she is healthy, but just to ensure the safety of your others.
