first timer question

Big end up, unless they are on their sides, and then it doesnt matter.

I was using Brinsea Octo 20, so my eggs where positioned between dividers for the first 18 days standing almost up.
For lockdown I took the dividers out and put the eggs on the side ... without the dividers to hold them there was no other way anyway.

They hatched out fine. They were being moved by hatched chicks and rolled by themselves.

I have the octo 40, and I leave the dividers in. Without the rolling around, they seem to have an easier time unzipping.

Lots of people use paper cartons in the hatch for that same reason.

No need to hurry, they can go without food and water for up to about 48 hours because the nutrients that they needed was provided by the egg yolk. Definitely wait until they are dry.
