I have some leghorn “pullets” that I just saw play cockfighting. They had their neck feathers out and were dancing about. There are two adult roosters in the flock of about 30 pullets and hens. Just wondering if I accidentally bought some cockrals? I bought my pullets sexed from the feed store. Not sure if the bird in the pictures was one of the suspects but it seems to have more wattle then the other. It would be good luck for me because I’d like to have a leghorn rooster.

The photos are from too far to really tell anything, but they look like pullets to me. All chickens will play fight and find their place in the pecking order, it's natural especially around 3 to 5 months old when they are trying to "fit in" with an existing flock. Unless you see blood don't be alarmed, it's just what they do!

Well I say don't give up hope! Sexed birds still have a 10% margin of error, so if we talk odds here, you could end up with 3 cockerels. However, behavior is NOT an indicator of gender in juveniles. You'll have to look for early comb/wattle development along with brighter red color. At 10-12 weeks, long pointy saddle and hackle feathers will start become apparent on any boys.

If you want cockerels, hopefully Murphy's law won't ruin everything and the odds will stay in your favor! :fl

Not just any rooster. I specifically want a leghorn. I’m pretty sure I struck out on that. I may just order the fryer special.

Pullets will spar/mock fight just as much as cockerels. The birds pictured to be pullets. Cockerels would have far larger combs at this age.

:welcome :frow I raise Leghorns. They are probably establishing their pecking order. Can't really tell from the pictures but they do appear to be pullets. Good luck and have fun...
