Hi

Is it a good idea to float test the eggs before putting them into the incubator? It could improve the hatch rate and reduce bacteria in the incubator, but could soaking the eggs cause damage to them?

Thanks

I don't soak mine, it doesn't sound like a pleasant idea. If i was you i would just skip that.

Float testing is 'passe'. If the egg is porus, it could allow the water to enter the egg...resulting in the chick drowning when it internally pips. Also takes the protective 'bloom' off the egg, allowing bacteria to enter the egg.
Skip the float test and just candle the egg(s).
