The silkie babies are growing up. Tonight I fiddled around with how I wanted to settle them, and figured out placing the crate on the ledge in the corner.

There are Curly, Marty, Mr P and Henny beside them, then on the other section are the four Noirans and Holly, that’s Georgie on her own - the brats is broody again.

Whiskers is in the nestbox below the Noirans, and Fluffy has commandeered the cardboard box up on the ledge. She’s moulting so she’s happier in there.

Mugs Monday

Marty - she is giving the youngsters the evil eye.

And @rural mouse you can see she has some gold neck feathers.

Mr P - sheesh I wish he would thump those ladies who pick at him!
View attachment 4263145

Curly - had to look close to see if it was Betty - no wattles though!
View attachment 4263146

Holly - little stinker gets under foot - trips me up. She’s moulting and coughing. Tylosin tonight for her.

Petra - also moulting so I put her about the same age as the Noirans. I help her with her topknot, removing the feather sheaths.

She’s looking good, and has some heft to her!

Petra is becoming quite lovely.

This cat decided to sleep on Father's side of the couch and my Father got quite a surprise when he got home and saw who was laying on his couch.

Later on, Mačor decided to lay next to Father for warmth. Truly a funny cat, except the times where he chooses to be unruly and misbehave. It's only going to get colder from here. I wonder how the Pentatonix are holding up, especially Mozzarella, who's starting to grow feathers slightly and looking less like a porcupine, but this doesn't look like a full coat of feathers.

Meanwhile, her twin is dressed for the cold.

We even transferred Hawk and Raven to be with the older ones for warmth. I wonder how Tony is doing, especially at her grown age. I can only imagine how Grandma would be handling this cold if she were still here.

That makes her dark partridge.....I think...

You are a sweetheart. Yes I know that it can take a long time for something to surface and I will be very alert to any signs of anything. But for now I am just wanting to make sure someone will check on me in the night.
So I have done number 1). Specifically, I have set up a group of friends to text me and if I don't respond to call me and if I don't respond to send the police for a wellness check.
I will see about number 2). Not sure I need an MD. I have no symptoms apart from the painful swelling/bruise developing on my head and my fat lip (I think I must have bitten it as I got clonked).
No nausea/vomiting, no photophobia, no dizziness, no slurring of words (have been on the phone constantly with anxious friends!), no confusion. No neck stiffness beyond my usual old lady everything stiffness. Frankly I don't even have a headache any more!
If I get any symptoms tonight I will go to the Emergency Room and if I get anything over the next few days I will consult a doc.
I have also told the chickens that they have to wait at least 24 hours before I go back out to the woods to get more logs for them!

Didn’t get a chance to ask how you are doing. I hope you’re ok.

Hawthorne's coloring looks like she dipped into a bowl of charcoal. What breed is she?
Hawthorne is ... last year, SIL and niece added to FIL flock some sort of blue/black Moss Eggers (and another green egg laying designer hybrid)....not sure where they got them from, but eggs went into the incubator from mine and FIL's flock. Hawthorne looks like the boys of that group, so I think he is actually the "pure bred" offspring of those. He falls into the Black Breasted Silver color group with the blue turning the male specific black breast to blue. Not 100% certain on that as I'm not sure what sort of comb the Moss Eggers have. There's also wyandottes in that flock, so it's possible he's a Moss x wyandotte. Being as I'm not familiar with the Moss background, I'm not sure how the genetics would mix with wyandottes either...and there are at least 2 color types. His comb and body shape could be wyandotte, but they could just as easily be the Moss. Whatever he is is beautiful and he's the gentlest/quietest/calmest of this year's cockerels here.

And he CANNOT be from my eggs as I don't have blue AND silver in the correct birds to produce him. Both colors are in my hens, none in my roos.

I agree... again, you beat me to it 😁

Dark Partridge will have a gold collar, & speckled gold wing tips... but at a distance will look black. The black feathers cover a lot of the gold feathers. It is not a recognized Silkie SOP... neither is Red Pyle, Tortiseshell, Calico, or Cuckoo.
