Just FYI....my red stars(production reds)are pro flyers :( and if they can't fly the 4' fence, which most do, they will fence climb.... My Wyandottes, EEs, silkies, and 50% of my BRs stay put and don't fly.


O had mentioned silkie because they CAN'T fly.... But they're worthless for eggs lol ;)

This is true as a general rule but not always. I have production reds and three of the hens where flying over a six foot fence and laying regularly somewhere. I had to to increase the fence to eight feet to prevent them from flying out. I do not clip because I do let they out to free range often and want them to fly to avoid predators.
