Hi, there! I've been a member here for a while -- owned a few chickens a while back and stopped checking in because we eventually gave them away. Anyway, I was hoping you guys could help me with something.

Our neighbors have a high school kid who brought home a baby chick and a baby duck a few days ago. They (the chick/duckling) are about 1-2 weeks old and are being given...what appears to be mushy white rice and vegetables. I've heard that they need starter feed? Or at least protein. If they do, the owners aren't going to be giving them any, and my parents aren't going to let me buy anything out of the ordinary for them this time around since we barely even know them. I don't really know what to do. Is there anything that I can substitute for them, or are they doing fine, or should I just leave it alone?

    Thanks. [IMG]
