hi everyone, so about a month ago i posted about one of my ducks having a swelling on the bottom of her foot. it doesn't seem to be bumblefoot because theres no big scab, its just a bit swollen, but the swelling looks a bit worse and the bit thats swollen is starting to lose its black colouring (her feet are black as she's a cayuga) and the swollen area is looking a bit white, and im not sure if its because her webbers are a bit elongated (if im honest thats probably it). I was wondering if anyone had anymore advice on how to treat her, because soaking her in epsom salts hasn't been working out for us. i've ordered her some little duck booties to keep her feet clean, i haven't sprayed her feet with any antiseptic as theres no wound or cut on her feet and im pretty sure the infection is on the inside of her foot. should I be letting her swim? I empty the pond twice a week but im not sure if I should be letting her swim at all, i thought she would get better with the soaking alone but its not working out

i'll take one tomorrow, its night time where I am and she's in bed :) the bump isn't as big and its not immediate, its a bit more gradual, but no theres no scab on her foot otherwise I would have done the little surgery for her by now

hey:) so i took this video because I struggle getting pictures to upload because I can never easily post pictures i take with my phone. its grown since i first started treating it and theres a white spot (which isn't a scab) which is worrying me and i don't know how to treat her

That's def a bumble and that needs to come out. I'd get her on some antibiotics first
https://allbirdproducts.com/products/enrofloxacin-10 Bumbles present themselves in many ways evidently. If you don't think you could do the surgery then my rec is a vet. They can put her on antibiotics and open that up. I did it myself with my DH holding her. I used a scalpel and just made a slit small enough to pop that core out. Then I packed it with antibiotic salve and wrapped kept her from getting it wet till healed. Here is info on how to give the antibiotic.

If you not in the US and haven't a way to order this antibiotic then I suggest the Vet.

do i need the antibiotic to do the surgery? im not US based, and there aren't many vets local to me that will treat ducks :/ i've asked before

Maybe not usually when they are like the one on my Runner's foot and your duck's foot they just pop out so you'd need some antibiotic ointment for afterward. If you don't have a scalpel a razor blade would work. Wash her foot real good and maybe apply some betadine to it before you start. If you can get the kernel out it will heal pretty fast. If you need help with wrapping we can help there too. I'd def have someone hold her wrapping her in a towel so she doesn't squirm while your working on her. With mine it was done pretty quick so they aren't in much pain I don't think My Runner sure didn't act like it anyway,.

if it can be 100% DIY with no proscribed antibiotics I should be okay, I just don't know where I'll get the stuff i need being based on the UK, we don't really have massive chains where they supply these kinds of things

Just wash her foot good with soap and water first or soak in Epsom salt water just make sure her foot is very clean. Antibiotic ointment should be at any pharmacy. You’ll need non stick gauze and vet wrap or medical tape for keeping her foot clean after. Sorry I’m slow in responding dh is in the hospital so I’m not on as much.
