First have the dogs paws shaved out...just the triangle on the bottom between the pads, or do it yourself if you have a clipper...so important for mud season! Then i have a long runner of indoor/outdoor carpeting like a runway in front of the dog door. I block them out of the bedroom and have tile floor and a couch with a slip cover
