Hello everyone but especially moderators - I'd be very interested to see a forum on Gardening with Poultry - to discuss using poultry for fertilizer, bug control, weed control, cover crops & poultry, composting, when to keep the chickens out of the garden, etc.

I have chickens now; they were pretty good with the established garden. Stlll, they ate too much of my kale and not enough of my slugs. Now I'm thinking about whether I want to get a duck for my slugs. In the meantime, I'm wanting to add fertilizer to my garden and I am wondering if I really have to keep the chickens off it for a year if I put chicken poo on it, and how much chicken poop to use, etc. I'd like go get a Guinea but maybe they make too much noise. All of these things seem like good topics for a section on Gardening with Poultry.

Thanks for the consideration. [IMG] And thanks for a great forum and website. BYC is the only forum I've ever had more than 5-6 posts. [IMG] Also got the newsletter and it was excellent, as well. THANK YOU.

I know letting chickens roost in my apple tree this year helped my apples. They are twice the size of every other year.

I think a combination forum section would be great. I was over in the Easy Garden forum but there's not much traffic there.

I joined www.theeasygarden.com a short while ago, and it's great! I'm still in the lurking stage, but I would love to see more about gardening with chickens there.

Hey, it's our sister site, go visit Sis!

Don't forget www.sufficientself.com!It great info, and very entertaining as well.

edit because I am on the laptop today and it's different!

With all due respect to The Easy Garden site or that other site - I don't need another whole forum. I'd rather see a gardening with poultry section on BYC.

Well, you're not likely to, since Rob has created a nice garden forum for us, linked at the bottom of the BYC pages.

We decided early on that BYC was not going to be an all things to all people forum. Gardening and sufficient living are two topics that are huge all by themselves so we didn't want them to dilute or detract from our purpose here.

So, unfortunately there won't be a gardening section added to BYC. Fortunately we've got a great sister site and we encourage everyone to visit www.TheEasyGarden.com or if they would rather, they can post gardening questions in an appropriate section here (usually Random Ramblings)

I guess those of us with questions about chickens and their behavior in the garden will just be posting here at BYC in the Managing Your Flock section. [IMG]
