Found something weird in laying box

I went to gather eggs and found this mess. We don’t have any roosters. I wondered if anyone has seen anything like this before?

That’s what I was wondering also. The catch is that we don’t have a rooster. That’s why I am so baffled. Thanks so much for your reply.

I just ran across this site last night about egg's. I bookmarked it. None of my egg's are looking funny, but at least I can find out if they ever do in the future?

The pinkish blob is a lash egg.

It’s like congealed pus.

Not an embryo.
Do an on-site search for salpingitis.

It does not have to be that sad....I had one that I would give antibiotics to for awhile, every time I got a lash egg. She lived several years that way, and laid quite a few good eggs, then would come a lash egg, more treatment, then she'd lay good eggs again for awhile. This went on for over 2 years. Maybe part of it was that when I saw any abnormality with her laying, I treated her. Staying on top of it, helped keep her somewhat productive, and increased her lifespan.
