Hello.

We were away and upon returning home, found this bird on our property where we have hens. Is this a chicken and if so, what breed; or if not, what is it? Thanks!!

Yeah, that's a polish hen. A relatively fancy breed. Do you know if anyone in the area keeps chickens? Could it have escaped?
It's also possible someone dumped it.
Does it seem healthy? If you want to keep it, you'll want to tie back the feather crest so it can see properly. Be aware that polish chickens are a crested breed, which means an area of their skull bulges upward and is very thin, so they're extremely vulnerable to head trauma. Best not kept with aggressive breeds that could peck them on the head and cause brain damage.

Wow, thanks for this info. Very interesting! If we can't find the owner, will keep her!
