I’m placing an order for local pickup at freedom ranger hatchery (I don’t want the minimum number to ship and they are 1 hr away so no biggie)
I’m getting ten... should I get the standard freedom ranger or the color yield? Of note... my birds are going to be processed by an Amish processor...
anyone have a preference on these?

I've been debating the same thing and was actually thinking of doing both for comparison, but I'll get evicted if I order 50 broilers. So I think this year I will do the Color Yield just because I am starting later in the year and processing will already be cutting into hunting season as it is...

How many are you getting? I bet you could do half and half for comparison and still keep them in the same enclosure. Are you tractoring them?

I’m only getting 10... I could do half and half and see that’s a great idea!

And I found two chicken tractors on FB for free going to pick up in the am. Gives me time to make sure they are sound (woman said they need slight repairs nothing major) and place them.
I plan to process at around 12 weeks...

Make sure they are sturdy and will keep predators out if that is a risk where you are.

I will, but not really a problem. Depending where I set the tractors... my German shepherds patrol enough that nothing comes on the property but mice and rats and groundhogs... 14 acres but 12 horses, 3 dogs, 2 goats and my chicken coop for layers is inside a horse pasture (no climb wire fence so nothing in or out)

The color yields must be popular they are sold out until May 13. Am picking up my half freedom ranger half color yield order that day

On the freedom ranger hatchery site they say it is ready a week sooner and has underlying white feathers... making it easier to process??
