We live in MN so we know we'll need to do something this winter to keep the girls water from freezing. I have seen the ones you can buy and plug in but they are to large for our coop. We have room for about a 1 gallon fount. We have the red bottom one right now. Any recommendations or home made ones?

I purchased a small warming dog bowl @ walmart for my coop works great and it is deep enough to keep litter/shavings out of the water as well.

ok, thats sounds like it could work, do you fill it everyday then? Did you set it on anything to raise it up? I fill our 1 gallon half full just about everyday. It got too dirty if I fill it all the way, was wasting too much water.

It all depends how much they are drinking I don't remember filling it more than once a day but I give fresh water daily . I did not elevate the dish.
