Hello! I grew up with chickens and now I am finally at a point in my life where I can have a coop of my own again.

I'm talking with someone locally about getting a Black Copper Maran for my coop, and because I live in city limits I need to try my best to get a pullet the first time around.

Anyone want to wager a guess whether these two marans are ladies or gents? I know the second one is really hard to see, so I apologize.

Thank you!

Looking at the first picture, my guess is a black pullet.

As for the second picture, it is too hard to tell from the picture.

Thanks for your reply! I apologize, it's the black one in the first photo, and the middle right black one in the second photo. In the first photo, the person knows the others are roos, but wasn't 100% about this one yet.

Thanks everyone! Trying my best not to make a mistake since I don't want to fall in love with a roo that we'd have to get rid of! Set to pick her up (and maybe another one!) tomorrow.

We're very excited.

They both look be pullets. Do you know their age? And just so you have the correct name even as a single chicken they are called Marans with an S on the end always.

Both Black Copper Marans appear to be pullets. However, from what I can tell by looking at the photo, the blue bird to the right of the BCM in the first photo looks like a cockerel. (unless its older than the other birds). How old are they?
