So, I don't know if anyone remembers Frenchy: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...se-sadly-frenchys-wing-comes-off-next-week/60 But she's still with me. She still has her wing because I could not justify spending over $1000 on a barnyard goose, but the break has formed a soft joint by this point. She flaps it around, which is very disconcerting since it flaps at the wrong point in the wing, and it seems to not bother her at all. She is still is a miserable old bat. She yells at me whenever she sees me and still hates my guts, but I keep her around on sufferance. After all, that bird cost me a fortune, so she is sticking around whether she likes it or not. This past week I am getting one egg a day. I have 17 chickens, 4 ducks and one ornery goose, and I am getting...1...egg....a...day. Ridiculous. I told all the birds the other night that if they did not start giving something back then they were going to start going to freezer camp. The next morning I got my usual one egg a day...and a goose egg. Frenchy has not laid in the fall for the past couple years, so I was surprised. She is getting up there in years and the last thing I expected was a goose egg. I thought it was a fluke and wrote it off. Two days later I got another goose egg, and then another, and another...and another. So far, she has given me 9 eggs this fall, which has made up for the fact that the rest of the birds are being total slackers. I swear that goose is always looking out for her flock. Whether it is to throw herself in the path of a hungry coyote to save her ducks, or to start laying eggs when her owner starts threatening the birds over their lack of eggs, she is always looking out for her flock. I think THAT is the main reason I keep the miserable bird around. I love you, Frenchy. Don't let it go to your head, though, you big jerk. Have a good night, all.
