fresh hatched chicks

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

I personally would let the momma hen raise them a few days before you intervene. Momma knows best. :-)

It's best to sit on the ground with them, chicks are very fast and can fall & just as easily get injured.
If children are involved please supervise, no squeezing, no throwing in the air to see if they can fly, etc. These are common things young children do to chicks. Chicks won't bounce back. Family pets are also likely to play or chase them which usually ends up with dead chicks.

Welcome to BYC. You've been given some good advice. In regard to drumstick diva's suggestion, while you are sitting on the ground with them, you can tempt them to eat out of your hand by offering them some food. Be patient with them and good luck with your new chicks.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! X4, I would give them a few days before handling them and then be very careful... also most broodies are not going to be happy with you handling their chicks and may attack you etc and will be upset if you take chicks away and they scream.

Glad you joined us! First of all congrats on the hatch! Let momma get used to the newbies and approach them carefully and preferably with treats. Most hens don't take kindly to people messing with their chicks and will warn their babies against you.

I have eggs about to hatch. Should I leave the broody hen with the new chicks in the coop or move them? If I move them do I need to wait a certain period
