8:00 husband answers phone-friend that found hen in a city
trail. ct.. He knew we had chickens so husband says sure bring
her out. She appears young-RSL, I have 2RSL, so I could at least
identify what breed. He has had her in a dog crate since Tues., she's laid
2 eggs, he put an ad in the paper with no luck. She's in my laundry room
because I didn't want to risk my flock. She is missing some feathers around
base of tail. Tail feathers are very thin, she has alot of new feather shafts
coming in. Could she have gone thru a molt? It was getting dark so I looked
her over- around vent and feather shafts for lice, mites did'nt see anything
but dusted her anyway. Perky and ate good, norma ldroppings. Any ideas about the feather loss at tail? Molt?
Thanks
Got some pics this morn

Could be rooster damage. The favorite hens of my roo look a little threadbare on the back end.

Thanks for the info. Mine are not moulting yet.
She seems healthy-gave her some yogurt and cheerios
this morn. She went for that. I'm going to keep
her separate from my flock for the next month, and try to
slowly introduce her if she remains healthy

Well, bless her little chicken heart!

I hope that she turns out to be perfectly healthy for you.

YEP! That's MY Chicken! Glad you found her and are taking good care of her!

Her name is "Traveller". She has done this numerous times! Once she went to South Dakota. Another time "OFF to Mexico" with a Mexican fighting Cock. Another time she appeared in England, supposedly visiting relatives!

She is a Buff Orpington/RockHEAD Mix.

Go ahead and send her back to me C.O.D.

THANKS!

I just bought 6 Golden Comets (that are red?). Of the 6, 4 have the same tail issues going on. They are also the 4 who lay steady. The 2 perfect looking ones are not laying. Don't know if this is a coincidence or not, since I've never had this breed of hen before.
