Hello.
I have a five year old Muscovy who has never had any trouble in the winter months before, but this morning his caruncles are dark blue.
Is this frost bite? Can his face be treated by me?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there, I'm unsure about his caruncles, but we had a client bring in a young female Muscovy duck the other day whos feet had frost bite. Some of her toes were a dark blue, almost looked like bruising and Dr assumed that it was the beginning stages since the end of her webbing was black and dead at that point.

Do you have a vet in your area that will see poultry? If so I would recommend at least having him seen.

I have muscovy and their caruncles can turn blue when too cold, but that's not frostbite. Its when it turns black. However, not much you can do once it happens. My drake gets a frostbitten knob almost every winter. He basically loses it and then it grows back. We have proper ventilation as none of the others get it, but he sits in the wind and doesn't tuck his head into his feathers for warmth.
