Just added shavings to keep it cleaner and some toys to stimulate their minds. Here are my 14 Orpington pullets and 15 Barred Rock pullets exploring the changes to their brooder.

    Enjoy! [IMG]

    A big picture.

A very exciting brick to peck and climb on.

A piece of dowling to duck under or hop over.

"Hey! Who laid the funky egg?" Actually, it's a cat toy that dingles when moved. I do hear it dingle pretty often so they must like it.

"Whoa, what the ....?" (Brightly colored plastic mini frisbee).

it never crossed my mind to give them a few toys to play with so they weren't as bored while in the brooder. but that is a great idea! and cute little fuzz butts you have there.

Oh, I forgot! We started the new coop. It's a 12X12 foot frame. My husband did all this over the weekend and my FIL and BIL will be here next weekend to help him finish it.

On that "preparing to soil their food" situation I have a semi evil suggestion that you may find useful. I have a 1x1 piece cut to the same length as that feeder that is nailed in with one nail on each end through the feeder and into the wood making wheel and axle kind of situation. When they jump up on it it flips them off and they seem to learn that in order to eat they have to stand out of the food dish. I really need a digital camera.

I thought the same thing and planned to put some more 'nature' toys in with my chicks when I get them, because I was thinking why not get them used to what they will be 'playing' with later down the road...everything needs some sort of entertainment...right [IMG] LOL
