I picked my duck up to dry her off after a swim and I think there is something wrong with her vent. It is brown, dry and crusty, kind of like a scab or when people have real dry chapped lips. I don't know what to do. I put her back into the water hoping a longer swim might loosen it up... any ideas of what is going on here. I will check my other female ducks. Please help if you know what is happening.

maybe you can try clenaing it off with some warm, slightly soapy water? it could be a build up of poo around the vent or she may have prolapsed and you're seeing it sticking out and it's been that way for a little bit and gotten dried out and scabbed.

I soaked her last night and again tonight. I got some natural honey and put it on her. I thought I might try giving her another bath later tonight or first thing in the morning. It almost looks like some sort of fungus growing around the vent. Anyone see anything like that before. She curled up on my lap and watched American Idol with me after her bath... she is so sweet.

I know its kind of hard... But any chance of a photo?? Just asking as it sounds like one of those things that most people would have seen or heard of before- and a little hard to picture from your description. It certainly has had me thinking about possibilities since I saw this thread last night.

My camera is at school, but I will bring it home tomorrow and take a picture. I hope she is okay. She is eating and seems lively enough.

She is pooping. I put her in for a soak and of course that is the first thing she does.... several times. Doesn't seem runny either.
