one of my 6 week old chicks has curly feathers. What has caused this, and is it normal?
It's a frizzle! What breed is it, do you know??
it is a Rhode island red. but it is only fuzzy on the end of its wing feathers.
That is how it starts, on the wings. Here is a pic of my frizzled silkie (called a sizzle because it actually has regular feathers that are frizzled not silkie feathers) Anyway, you can see how the wings are curled out.
Is that what yours are doing?
blue fire....can you post pics?? This would help alot. Besides....I jsut LOVe pics of chicks!! LOL
how do you post pictures?
Go to www.photobucket.com Its free to use, and very easy. Once your pics are loaded there, you can easily post them here. Good luck, I cant waite to see this little one!
Blue Fire you can also go to the General Discussions forum here in BYC and the administrator has done a sticky note for FAQ and Chicken Dictionary. Here is the link:
this is a bit blurry
just took these this morning
I can't see them that well but from what I can tell, that is not a frizzle. The feathers would be curling back toward the head from what I have been told. Someone else may know better than me. But in my opinion it is not a frizzle.
Here is an updated pic of my sizzle.
As you can see, all the feathers are curling backward toward his/her head.
Does that help?
