I have 2 five month old RIR roosters. The first one matured over a month ago. He has a perfect "cock-a-doodle-dooooo"! It only took him a few tries to find his voice. The other rooster has made a few "wooooo" sounds over the past 2 weeks, but no real crowing sounds. He sounds like a ghost! Is it because he is not the dominant roo? Thoughts? Both look the same, except roo#2 is slightly smaller.

As with humans, chickens don't all mature at the same rate.

When I had two roosters, the subordinate one never seemed to be reluctant to crow whenever the mood struck.

Ha ha! He went to a farm with 4 hens today and he cock-a-doodle-do crowed three times and did a happy dance! Lmao! He was not the dominant roo here. So happy for him! Thanks!
