I am so excited - we finished our coop this past weekend and we are now on a chicken hunt.

We are looking for a variety of calm friendly chooks that are great layers and will not be too bothered by our dogs.
(sounds like I am placing a personal ad) [IMG]
We originally planned for two... but because of the size of the coop we are going for six. Yay. Our neighbors are pretty happy with that... counting on a few excess eggs.

We live in the NoDa area of Charlotte, NC and would love to meet up with any other locals with BYC.

Welcome from DownEast NC!! Not exactly "local" for you, but you'll find loads of helpful folks here to guide you in your search. Good Luck!

There is a show coming up out your way pretty soon. Lots of notes about it; I think they are under the "Where am I, where are you" subject for North Carolina... You'll find it.

I live in NoDa too! We are in the process of buying or building a coop. We aren't going to get chickens until that task is complete. A few questions:

    1. Did you get a permit?
    2. Did you build or buy your coop?

[IMG] Always nice to have room for more chickens! My black australorps are fantastic layers and real sweethearts too.
