Future Chicken Owner

I am so excited - we finished our coop this past weekend and we are now on a chicken hunt.

We are looking for a variety of calm friendly chooks that are great layers and will not be too bothered by our dogs.
(sounds like I am placing a personal ad)

We originally planned for two... but because of the size of the coop we are going for six. Yay. Our neighbors are pretty happy with that... counting on a few excess eggs.

We live in the NoDa area of Charlotte, NC and would love to meet up with any other locals with BYC.

I live in NoDa too! We are in the process of buying or building a coop. We aren't going to get chickens until that task is complete. A few questions:

1. Did you get a permit?
2. Did you build or buy your coop?
