galvanized wire leaches lead as it degrades

Any galvanized metal will leach zinc and lead and probably other things.

The presence of lead in galvanized metals is there as an impurity of Zn, not as an additive so the concentration is very low. Metalic Zn is not considered hazardous.
The base metal of the fencing is steel, a ferrous-carbon alloy.

Thanks for the details.
My point was any galvanized metal has/can have the leaching issue.
Doesn't matter if it's chicken wire or hardware cloth or field fencing.

Agree that it's not a huge concern as the OP's link suggests.
