Howdy all. My name is Rodney from Gold Coast, Australia.

About 12 months ago a regular visitor over the last 5 years from the neighborhood moved in here permanently.

She's a common brown chicken that I've since named Henny Penny. (very original [IMG])

I'm not sure if the previous owners treated her badly, or the other chickens they have pushed her out.

She started hanging around my backyard workshop and as chickens do at night, she started climbing up high for safety. (we have foxes / snakes)

Trouble was the highest thing in my workshop was my computer monitor.
Needless to say, I needed a solution for her and those poop's left on my table each morning.

I ended up getting an old buffet (see video) and turning into a "chicken motel".

She's free to leave anytime but seems to like hanging around with me during the day while tinkering with old mowers.

I guess she's about 5 years old and not laying anymore, so she's just company now days.

Well she did lay one egg about 3 months ago, but thats it so far.

I hope to bring a few tips for fussy chicken owners here, as Henny Penny, although very polite when food is around, doesn't always take to the regular feed most chickens will take.

Anyways, thanks for reading and hope to chat later.

    Cheers,
    Aussie Rod and Henny Penny

    Hi and :welcome

    from Adelaide.
Your motel looks fantastic. :p It's nice you have some company while you're tinkering around, haha! Our neighbours' little chickens, who were getting picked on by the older flock, used to fly over the fence and hang out with us when they were small.

    Hi Fierlin1182 [IMG]

I was doing courier work a short while back and was paid to pick that old retro buffet up and take it to the tip.

I first put it on Gumtree and had a lady that wanted it for $60...then the poop's on my computer monitor got me thinking...

    LOL, rest is history.

Thanks for the welcome. I'll check your girls out as well.

    Cheers,

    Rod and Penny. [IMG]

Very resourceful, I like it

I'll find a picture of the old chickens, I know I have some uploaded somewhere.

[IMG] There are two Aussie threads that I know of on BYC, 'Australia- six states and one funny little island," and 'Australians - where are you" they also hang around the Emu threads.
