Got these gals last week at Tractor Supply. They were marked “Manager’s Special” for getting too old. They didn’t say breed, just said they were pullets.

I posted when we got them & the consensus seemed to be that they’re Barred Rocks.

This one has a much bigger tail than the other 3. Did we end up with a male? I hope not, we’re in city limits and can’t have roosters. Any guess?

Also, what do you guess their age to be? We got them on the 20th, so have had them just over a week.

Looks like according to the picture you’ve got 3 Dominiques and 1 Barred Rock. The difference in feather growth can be easily explained by that.

Now I’m not too good at guessing age but 3 weeks old maybe?

How can you tell the difference between a Dominique & a Barred Rock?

best guess would be barred rocks as that was what my previous flock was, but still to soon to tell for me on gender i would say 2-3 weeks old. a lot can change in the next bit too as chicks grow so fast, as it grows you will start getting a clearer picture , mostly when the baby feathers change to their adult feathers

I took a closer look at them tonight & you’re correct about their combs. The one with the longer tail has a single comb, the other 3 have rose combs. I’m just going to cross my fingers that they’re all female. If there’s a male he’ll either need a new home or end up in my crockpot!
