Gender guesses for Barred Rock (chick 5 of 6)

    Chick #5 is almost 4 weeks old. Both mother and father are BR. I think he's male because he is bigger, heavier and has a redder comb than #4. Feather development is advanced. Closeups below:

    All look like pullets to me except for 5 and 6. Barred rocks are fairly easy to sex. Females are always darker than males. The sixth one looks like a roo because of the lighter color.

    Those photos look like the mom and dad to #4 and #5. #5 is quite a bit more white than the other. Looks just like the dad did when he was a chick. Only time will tell.

    Looking at the OP's other posts, they're not all pure barred Rocks, though. If they're not pure they can't be sexed by color/shade.

    Agree the bird here is a cockerel.
