Oh Boy is this going to be a long thread start. Anyways I need help IDing Males in the breeds that was listed in the Title. All but the Rhodes were Hatchery purchased. In males of these breeds we purchased 1 Buff Brahma (BB) and 1 Ancona (A). The Rhode Island Reds (RIR) were home breed and hatched, and we suspect a male Black Australorp (BA). All of these birds are around 6 weeks of age.

They all look like pullets to me.

Looks like pulled to me too, and I once had a batch of four of four cocks, knew it by they time they were 3 weeks! You'll want to see if the nobs on their inner ankle starts to grow out into a spur, then you've got a roo, or they're waddle is unusually bright or large compared to the rest.

Are you talking about all of them or a specific breed? I know that one of the Buff Brahmas should be male, unless it was sexed wrong.

    Hi welcome to BYC! [IMG]

You are incorrect about the spurs... all chicks will have little bumps and they won't start growing until much later. Also some females can have spurs.

They look like pullets so far to me to. The Brahma, if it were a boy should get a darker color on his wings.

I would expect to be seeing more pink in the combs on boys by 6 weeks. But behavior among the flock is a great indicator. See who runs around facing off with everybody, those will likely be your boys.

Red #2 maybe boy, BB # 6 is a suspected boy (dark spot near thumb on wing).

Hard to imagine you getting all girls even from a home hatch... but it happens. I guess getting girls when you are expecting a couple of boys might be less troublesome than getting boys when you can only have girls. But they can still develop more. [IMG]

You did pretty good at the pics. A standing side shot might be good.

I'm just currently not seeing anything that looks like a rooster. Could be you need to wait a few weeks for it to be more apparent, or it could be you have none. I would post in a few more weeks again to see if there's any changes.
