This chick has had a large comb for a long time and seems to be getting a cape, but has very rounded rump feathers. What'd you think?

I think he is too young to be a hen and have that red a comb. BCMs show males by combs by about 4-6 weeks and the hackles color out much sooner than the females.
Our hens start laying when the comb is huge enough to lay over a tad at the back end- about 5-6 months.

12 weeks? I vote for a cockerel! My BCM pullets didn't get a comb that size until they started laying at 20 weeks, and some weren't even that large!
