I think these are about 12 weeks old. Any thoughts wil be appreciated.
Not a breed I have myself but from what I can see they look like pullets to me. It's a little hard to see their combs in the pic's but they look small and I don't see any pointy hackle or saddle feathers coming in.
I've only had 3 speckled sussex - but it was clear very early (as in 6 weeks) which one was a roo... a much larger and redder comb than the other two. Can't tell much from your photos, but if they both look the same, and both have fairly small combs, I'd say pullets!
Below (in the foreground) is a picture of my SS pullet at 11 weeks
I raise SS and with my experience I have found that roos usually have more white in the face and breast than the hens as you can see in the pics. I have also found that the roos can be late bloomers in comb developement and can take a little longer than most breeds to be sexed by combs.
About two mos old, male on the left, pullet on the right
Around 3 mos old male on the right female on the left, ( this male should have good coloring and pattern as an adult)
So I'd say the one in the back in the first pic is a pullet and the other one looks like it could be also, butI can't see the front of it.
Could we get closer pictures of them from the side and front, so we can see if their tails curve and how much white they have?
I'll try to get better pictures tomorrow. It will be difficult as they have gotten to know me and want to stand practically on my feet.
I hope these pictures are better. Those little rascals are fast.
