    Hi there!

I know this is a tricky one, but being new to hatching and all I was wondering if it was already possible to know what gender my tiny golden salmon marans is?

They are supposed to be sexable by looking at the wings on day one, so I took a pic and I am hoping it says female... aile.jpg

Also some people say that the colour markings are a give away, but I can't get my head around it so I'm hoping you guys can help me.
Another piece of info that could help is that it's wing feathers have already grown like crazy (and look kind of light coloured), as he/she is my first chick I'm not sure quite what to think of it. On these pics he/she is three days old :

I'm really hoping he's a she, which would mean this is his/her forever home. I've already grown quite attached to the little guy, who hatched in an incubator and stayed inside with us for a few days until his bantam brothers and sisters hatched so that he could join them and their mama hen. I'm less worried about the bantams, since I hatched them to be able to keep a rooster and maybe a hen or two, and have lots of demands for the rest of the bunch.

I know this is a tough question, especially on such a young bird, and I will try to keep documenting his/her development as the weeks go by.

Thanks in advance for your tips!

Here's an update on day six, wing feathers have grown like crazy! Is this normal development?
Plus (it's not that obvious on the pics, sorry for the bad quality) tail feathers are starting to sprout...

If it's wing sexable at hatch I would guess female. Quick feather development on the wings seems to also indicate female. Keep us posted though

@cstephens1987 Thank you! The breed is wing sexable at birth, I do hope you are right.
I'll try to keep posting weekly pics to document the development ;)

Day 14, my goodness don't these little things grow up fast!
Wings are more than fully feathered, the tail has popped out like crazy, and uh oh, here comes the comb...

Any new guesses on sex? :)

3 weeks old today! Little Nuggets is definitely looking less and less like the cute little fluffball that hatched...
Any new inputs on gender? The head says cockerel but the feather colouring says pullet to me...

Do you guys know when the male/female feather colour difference kicks in? Because they are supposed to look veeeeery different (see pictures in link) :

It's a cockerel. My OEGBs didn't get in their male coloring until they were 4 weeks old, and OEGBs are a fast developing breed.

@RoostersAreAwesome Awwwww shoot! Is it just the comb colouring that makes you say that? 'Cause Marans are supposed to be fast developing for both sexes on that point... It was also very fast feathering and had female feather length on the wings at birth, but the pink kicking in also has me wondering...
I really hope you are wrong, he'll probably have to go if that's the case :hit

It's more the comb size. Then again, I haven't had marans before, so I could be wrong.
