Font page of our newspaper yesterday reported the arrest of a local man for cruelty to his pet chickens. It is a horror story about the chickens whom he had evidently loved and tended as house pets. Likely he is ill or depressed. Such a sad event.

I found an online pic and job resume that are likely his - with a lot of weight loss - looks like he may have been out of work a few months.

This is the first front page animal cruelty report in our Macon News - we have our share of those on dogs and cats, but never chickens.

Wow, poor things. Let's hope that something emotional was the cause.

I don't think I've seen a report like that on chickens before. You're right @sunflour , usually those stories are about dogs and cats (I've seen some on horses too). So sad.

We've seen an AWFUL amount if abused horses in our area, it seems, but I hadn't heard of anyone abusing chickens either..... If course, uve seen them being hauled on semis with no protection from 75 mph wind and road hazards too, crammed into tiny cages, and I think THAT was blatant cruelty....

    For another time :p

Usually the elderly ones are just struggling so hard to make ends meet but they can't BEAR to give up their animals. It's so sad when it reaches the point of jail instead of help. :(
