Gettin' some yardbirds

Sep 8, 2018
We are wanting to add some yardbirds to our menagerie for both eggs and harvest. Just getting started and want to have enough eggs to cover down on 18-24 a week. Also to have chicken 1-3 times a week. I will soon be building a coop on our 2+ acres that is fenced in by chain link fence. The plans I found RuralRehatch will work great for our needs I think after I confirm the yardbird calculus. This seems to be a great site for resourcing information on the Chickens.

Hello and welcome to BackYard Chickens :frow

Sounds like you'll be getting lots of birds! Do you know what kind yet? I've heard that Cornish Cross mature quickly and can be harvested by 7-8wks old. Production and sex link varieties are usually prolific layers but have a shorter life span. Then there's always dual purpose breeds... could buy straight run and harvest the cockerels, keep the pullets for the eggs. So many options!

Good luck in your new chicken adventure!
