My chicks are kept under a window from 7am to 11 pm, and i flip on a light at about 9 so i can see to get my dogs and cats fed. Their lights stay on all night. For whatever reason, they sprawl out asleep in pitch black unless i turn the light on and back off-then they panic and pile in a corner.

How can i get them off the light? We have one and two week old chicks-theyll have to learn sooner or later

Just turn it off -- and put up with their cheeping for a night or so, until they get used to the dark. Once they do, they will rest a lot better.
