I have 8 ~two week old chicks. I bought 4 of them on 5/28 from a feed store that gets their chicks from Ideal. The other 4 were bought on 5/30 from another feed store that also gets chicks from Ideal. I am guessing they were 3 days old when I got them. Most of them weigh between 45-50g. There is one white one that weighs 72g. There is one black on that weighs 70g, but is visually smaller than the white.
Is that much difference normal at this age? Or are these two outliers likely males? I am planning on DNA sexing them next week. I can only have four chickens and no roosters which is why I am getting them sexed.
Also, the 2nd largest (the black chick) has an odd clump of feathers on his back. I gave him a bath to check for injury but didn't see anything. Two days later its back. Still no injuries that I can see. Are the other birds picking on him? He had an eye issue over the weekend that seems to have been something stuck in his eye as it has cleared up.
