She doesn't hold her tail at the higher angle that the two boys do. She is 14 weeks old. I see no evidence of saddle feathers. I can't tell if her neck feathers are pointy because the edges of her feathers are thin and frayed looking. They are not as long as the boys neck feathers that are 3 wks older than her. But they do seem a little long and skinny, but some seem rounded too. Her personality is much calmer than the boys. Not sure as to whether her tail is starting to look longer. Her pea comb seems to only have one row, and it isn't as thick as the two boys, but it's also not pale in color. What do you think...girl or boy???

Looks girly to me, too. No shiny saddle feathers and by that age, you'd see them already. I have a black hen and splash hen, both 9 years old. Great breed.

How do they lay at that age? I'm curious. I'm new to chickens, still in my first year of chicken ownership :)

Well, most hens that age rarely lay, if at all. My black hen has laid within the last year, a few eggs in a one month period. The splash is very crippled with arthritis and has not laid in maybe two years or so. I have a hen of a different breed who is 10 years old next month. She laid 14 eggs from Nov through last month, but probably will take a several month break now....or she may never lay again.
