I think this person is discussing going out with a blind date, who may in fact be a serial killer, and splitting the bill.

If you pay,he will kill you because he thinks you got the big bucks.
If he pays, he will take you home and kill you for not paying.

So this leaves us with splitting the bill, which is awkward, and may also get you killed.
The hard part is if you order a salad, and your date orders a filet mignon and a full lb of crab legs.
You better try drinking something really expensive, and the reason for that is this:

If you only eat a salad and refuse to pay for half of his dinner, you will most likely end up in the morgue, so it would be wise to order some very expensive booze or champaign. That way you'll have a stake in things when it comes time to split the bill, plus you might end up getting drunk, which will make the pain of being bludgeoned seem a lot less.
You could just forget about him, but chances are good that you already gave him your address.
