Hope everyone has a great weekend. I am headed to Lake City Fl. I will be staying with my Sis in Jacksonville and driving over to the chicken show. I will take pictures. I am not showing because I have been to sick to get anything ready for the last three weeks, but wouldn't miss it. I am picking up some new chickens from some breeders.

I'm headed to lake city myself, saturday morning, once the dairying is done. I should be on my way by 0600,and it takes about 4 hours m.o.l. I'm looking forward to some shopping and hopefully meeting some of the BYC flock?

All y'all take care and see you at the fair!!!

Okay, I really don't understand the logic in it, but out of pocket means you will be busy or not available. And just for you md I will see if I can google up the origins of the expression. I'm not too out of pocket right now, so I don't mind. [IMG]

Okay md, stop drooling over that centerfold of a silkie in Playchicken and pay attention!

"Out of pocket" is indeed usually used as a sort of shorthand for "paying out of one's own pocket that which should (and usually ultimately will) be paid by someone else." Interestingly, the original sense of "out of pocket" when it first appeared around 1693 was not so hopeful. It meant to be either "broke" or "the loser in a financial transaction."

However, around 1974 "out of pocket" also started being used to mean "out of touch" or "unavailable." No one seems to know exactly why this sense arose or what the "pocket" in this case might be. Personally, I suspect that it's a bad translation of some French phrase. In any case, this sense of "out of pocket" is not, as far as I can tell, widely used. A more common phrase meaning the same thing is "out of the loop," which first appeared around 1983 and is probably rooted in computer terminology.

Carugoman, it takes me about the same amount of time to get there. I hope I will still be there when you arrive. I am arriving about 9 that morn and visit with a few friends and pick up a few chickens and eggs. Then my friend going with and my sis are going to do a few other things.
Gritstar, I only live about 15 min from the Fl. state line. About a 80 mi. to Panama City Beach and a little further to Destin.
