I bought these 2 GLW chicks - approx 6 - 8 weeks old (breeder wasn't sure as had lots of clutches) but very slow feathering. The darker one is aggressive to the other chicks in the pen, seems to have more of a comb and yellower legs. Is it a rooster and the other a hen?
Sorry for poor photos but they won't keep still. The light Sussex ? Rooster kept photo bombing too - lol.

When they've completely feathered out, take some pictures of the backs and shoulders, plus combs and wattles. We should be able to help then if it is not already obvious. Breeds with rose combs are often tricky.

Thank you. It's a bit frustrating as they seem to be feathering so slowly - is that a gene causing that? They are the same size as the other 8 /9 week light Sussex chicks which don't have the bald spots.

All of my Wyandottes have been really slow grow outs! Slow to mature as well...my GLW hen didn't lay her first egg till she was almost 10 months old.
